Foods That Help Relieve Stress
Debbie Mendel, author of Addicted to Stress: A Woman’s 7 Step Program to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity in Life, says that there are certain foods that you can consume to reduce stress. If you’re feeling blue and you think need a little extra boost, here’s what you can do to feel mentally and physically healthier:
1. Follow a low-fat Mediterranean Diet.
- Fruits, vegetables and plant based foods
- Little red meat
- Fish several times a week
- Healthy fats such as olive oil
- Wine in moderation
- Low-fat dairy products such as yogurt and cheese
2. Add complex carbohydrate into your diet for an immediate boost.
- Oatmeal
- Whole wheat toast
- Brown rice
- Brown pasta
3. Have some healthy lean protein 20 minutes after eating some complex carbohydrates.
- Chicken
- Fish
- Eggs
- Low-fat cheese
4. Eat sources of Omega-3 several times a week to increase brain health.
- Salmon
- Halibut
- Mackerel
- Flaxseed oil
- Walnuts
5. Enjoy small portions of dark chocolate several times a week.
- Make sure that it contains 60 percent or more cacao.
