Laughter Is The Best Medicine

I have to be honest and admit that ever since my futsal accident, I haven’t been in the best of moods. I try my best to keep my spirits up, but sometimes I find it difficult because the pain and the limited mobility make me feel upset and cranky. I can’t partipate in a lot of activites and I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of fun. It isn’t easy, but I realized that I just have to work with what I have and the one thing that really cheers me up is reading a funny book.

Although there is no concrete research that proves the potential health benefits of laughter, Steve Wilson, a psychologist and laugh therapist does believe that people are a lot better off if they can get more laughter in their lives.

According to Wilson, “The effects of laughter and exercise are very similar. When we laugh, we change physiologically. We stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breath faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues.”

Apparently, laughing for 10-15 minutes can burn up to 50 calories! It also effects our blood flow, immune response, blood sugar level and helps us relax and sleep. Laughter has the ability to dull pain and undeniably improves the quality of our lives.

Gazal - Very true! It’s better to laugh things off then sulk and be moody all day right? :) Comedy is the best cure!
